There are plenty of special spots to finish off the day on the island with an incredible sunset view. On the west coast Colwell Bay, near Freshwater, offers spectacular sunsets and views back across the Solent to mainland England and is also a generally calm bay for a sunset swim. Just south of this, Totland Bay is a pebble beach with The Waterfront pub and its sea wall is a great place to have a pint as you watch the sun sink over the horizon. The Needles area has three good vantage points. The first is from the raised decking of Needles Viewpoint at the north end of the Needles carpark. The second location is up the hill from the carpark to the New Battery and the third is from Headon Warren. Along the south coast great sunsets can be caught from the top of the cliffs along the Military Road, especially Whale Chine; whilst Gurnard is a great spot on the north coast where you can also enjoy the good local food and the buzz of its sailing scene.
