Mealaisbhal is the highest summit on Lewis at 495 metres. The views from the summit over Uig sands, Scarp, the Flannan Islands, mountains and across the ocean to St Kildaare incredible.
The 7 km route starts on a track then goes free-range initially through boggier land, then through boulders to the summit with a totoal ascent of 555 metres.
Start at the block house close to the Alt Geislir (that runs between the two Lochs of Greabhat and Sanndabhat) at GR NA 992 261. Parking is available slightly further south. Walk along the rough track past the ruins of another house. Continue until the track enters the bog and head straight for Mealaisbhal (and Cracabhal to its right) to the south of Loch Sanndabhat. Ascend the steeper flank of Mealaisbhal to reach the summit. Return the same way.
