Climb Beinn Schleibe, Berneray’s high point, for fabulous views over the Sound of Pabbay and the hills of Harris further north.
Beinn Schleibe is located at the northern tip of Berneray and can be easily accessed from the northern end of West beach on the islandeering route. Also, from Baile on the north east coast, you access the high point by following the minor road along the machair for 1.3km, go through the gate, follow the waymarkers along the shore and follow the waymarkers up to the summit of Beinn Shleibhe. Both routes are quite free-range but easy to do.
The full islandeering route, that includes the climb of Beinn Schleibe, can be found in the book, Islandeering; adventures around the outside edge of Britain’s hidden islands
