Swimming around a whole island is to us the ultimate adventure and the Brownsea Island swim is a firm favourite. An established fixture in the open water swimming calendar it is an annual event organised by the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) Poole Lifeguard club. Every year 300 swimmers take part and swim 6.5 kilometres of open water to circumnavigate the island. The swim is tidally assisted on both sides of the island. www.brownseaswim.org.uk
With appropriate support and knowledge of tidal flows, especially with Poole Harbour’s unique tides, it is also possible to swim around the island as a private group.
